Woo Bum-Kon (* 24. February 1955 in Seoul , † 27. April 1982 in Uiryeong ) was a South Korean policeman and one of the richest victim shootings responsible, killed in the 58 people and 35 others were injured.
Woo had not got a chance to get promotions and his wedding failed due to lack of money, whereupon he got into a heated argument with his girlfriend. The next morning, April 27, 1982, he left his home and went to the armory of the local police station, to which he was allowed as an officer. There he started getting drunk on whiskey , grabbed two M1 carbines , 180 rounds of ammunition and seven hand grenades, and then went door to door ambushing and killing unsuspecting citizens in their homes. He randomly murdered everyone he encountered in his eight-hour rampage through five towns in Gyeongsangnam-do Province , including entire families. Most recently, he set off two hand grenades that he was carrying on his body and died with three hostages in Uiryong. A total of 57 people were killed and 35 others injured during the rampage.
As a result of this incident, the then Interior Minister of South Korea, Suh Chung-hwa , resigned and handed over his post to Roh Tae-woo .
