The county Uiryeong ( kor. : 의령군 , Uiryeong-gun ) is located in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do . The administrative headquarters are in Uiryeong-eup City. The district had an area of 483 km² and a population of 27,933 inhabitants in 2019.
On the evening of April 26, 1982, police officer Woo Bum-kon carried out a series of murders in several villages in the county. A total of 56 people were killed and 35 others wounded in the worst non-terrorist rampage in South Korea's history.
