The county Hapcheon ( kor. : 고성군 , Hapcheon-gun ) is located in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do . The administrative headquarters are in the city of Hapcheon-eup. The district had an area of 984 km² and a population of 45,799 inhabitants in 2019.
The famous Haeinsa temple is located in Hapcheon . In 1995 it was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List as a World Heritage Site .
Famous people born in the county include former South Korean President Chun Doo-hwan .
