Changwon is a city and capital of Gyeongsangnam-do Province in South Korea . It is located about 40 kilometers west of Busan .

history

Busan was part of the province until 1963 , but even after it was spun off as a city, it remained the administrative seat of the province. When the decision was made after 20 years to move the administration back to the province, there were several cities to choose from. To the surprise of many, Changwon won the race despite the more promising prospects of the cities of Masan and Jinju . On July 1, 2010, the neighboring cities of Jinhae and Masan were incorporated.

economy

Through a strongly accelerated development and modernization, Changwon has developed into a center for heavy industry, mechanical engineering and manufacturing industry. The solar industry has now also gained a foothold here. The company Hyundai Wia , a subsidiary of Hyundai Motor Group , is based in Changwon. Other companies are Hyosung S&T Motors , Hanwha Techwin and Samyang Optics from Masan.

education

The Changwon National University and some technical schools are located in the city.

Culture

There is an F-3 Grand Prix track in Changwon .
