HanWha Techwin ( kor . 한화 테크윈 ) is a South Korean company specializing in security solutions , aviation technology, optoelectronics, automation and defense technology. The Changwon- based company is a subsidiary of the Hanwha Group.

history

Founded in 1977 , the company started a precision engineering laboratory in 1978 and began manufacturing cameras in 1979. In cooperation with General Electric , aircraft engines for South Korean jets were manufactured from 1980. Production of the 155mm self-propelled howitzer began in 1984.

The name was changed to Samsung Aerospace Industries in 1987 after helicopters were also manufactured. In 1995 Samsung Aerospace Industries bought the German camera manufacturer Rollei , and later Union Optics of Japan, a manufacturer of semiconductor equipment. In 1996, the KF-16 was the first South Korean fighter jet to be manufactured.

In 1999 the aircraft business was sold to Korea Aerospace Industries and the name of the company was changed to Samsung Techwin in 2000 .

The self-propelled 155 mm self-propelled howitzer K9 Thunder was also exported to Turkey in the years to come . In 2005 the company started in the South Korean digital camera market and cooperated with Pentax .

On June 29, 2015, Samsung Techwin was acquired by the Hanwha Group and renamed Hanwha Techwin .
