Jinhae-gu is a district of the city of Changwon in South Korea . Until it was incorporated in 2010, it was an independent city. Jinhae is known for its cherry blossom festival .
history
Jinhae was developed as a port ( chinkai ) during the Japanese occupation in the early 20th century. Jinhae developed city status. On July 1, 2010, Changwon , Masan and Jinhae merged to form the newly established city of Changwon. The old city of Jinhae became a district.
Many people who live in Jinhae are members of the South Korean Navy . There is also a naval academy in Jinhae ( 해군 사관학교 Haegun Sagwan Hakkyo ). The city is also home to the only US military naval base in South Korea, Commander Fleet Activities Chinhae .
