The Dürr AG , based in Stuttgart and head office in Bietigheim-Bissingen is a listed machine and plant manufacturer, which was founded in 1896 in Cannstatt By Paul Dürr (1871-1936). Customers include automobile manufacturers and suppliers. Other customer industries are, for example, mechanical engineering, the chemical and pharmaceutical industry and the woodworking industry.

history

The company's history began in 1896 when Paul Dürr founded a plumbing shop on Brunnenstrasse in Bad Cannstatt . In 1898 the company was expanded to include a residential building with storage rooms on the corner of Hofener Strasse and Olgastrasse in Bad Cannstatt.

The roof of the art building in Stuttgart

For a work on the roof of the Stuttgart art building, he received the title of Königlich Württembergischer Hofflaschner in 1913 . In 1917 the company expanded to include sheet metal processing and contacts to the vehicle industry were established.

The first Dürr system for chemical surface treatment

In 1932 Paul Dürr handed the company over to his son Otto Dürr. In 1936 a branch was established in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen . In 1938 a design office was set up and an engineer was employed so that complicated sheet metal parts could also be produced. The company was included in armaments production during the Second World War, the sheet metal parts for the NSU-Kettenkrad came from the Dürr company. In 1943 the main factory in Bad Cannstatt was destroyed in a bomb attack.

Plant construction began in 1950 and a plant for chemical surface treatment was built. 1963 installed in Dürr Ford -Werk Genk the first plant for the electrophoretic dip coating. Subsidiaries were founded in Brazil and Mexico in 1964 and 1966.

In 1978 Dürr expanded his company to include automation and conveyor technology . In 1989 Dürr went public and took over the Behr Group. In this way, all core competencies in paint shop construction were combined in one company. In 1999 Dürr took over the French company Alstom Automation, and in 2000 the measuring technology group Carl Schenck became part of the Dürr Group. In 2003 Dürr received its largest order to date: General Motors orders three paint shops for North America.

In the course of realigning the group structure and concentrating on its core competencies in mechanical and plant engineering, Dürr sold peripheral activities in 2005 that it no longer considered to fit into the portfolio of the business model with a focus on the automotive industry. In the summer of 2009, Dürr relocated its group administration to the Bietigheim-Bissingen location.

After 23 years at the helm of the Dürr AG supervisory board, Heinz Dürr resigned from his position in April 2013. In 2014, Dürr acquired HOMAG, the market leader for machines and systems in the woodworking industry.

In 2018, Dürr acquired the industrial environmental technology business of the US company Babcock & Wilcox Enterprises, Inc. (B&W).

In 2019 Dürr AG employs around 16,400 people and has 108 locations in 32 countries.
