The Nemetschek SE is a provider of software for architects, engineers and the building industry. The company develops and sells solutions for planning, designing, building and using buildings and real estate as well as for the media and entertainment industry. According to its own information, Nemetschek and all its subsidiaries have over 6 million users in 142 countries (as of 2020).

history

The company was founded in 1963 by Georg Nemetschek under the name of Ingenieurbüro für das Bauwesen with a focus on structural engineering. The engineering office was one of the first companies in the branch to use computers and develop software for its own use. In 1977 Nemetschek began selling its Statik 97/77 program system for civil engineering.

At the Hanover Fair in 1980, Nemetschek presented a software package for the integrated calculation and design of standard components for solid construction. For the first time, computer-aided engineering (CAE) on microcomputers was possible and the product had a unique character for many years.

The headquarters of Nemetschek in Munich

In 1981 Nemetschek Programmsystem GmbH was founded, which took over the development and sales of the software. The main product Allplan , a CAD system for architects and engineers, appeared in 1984. With it, planners could model buildings in three dimensions.

At the end of the 1980s, Nemetschek began to expand internationally: by 1996 the company had subsidiaries in eight European countries, sales partners in nine European countries and, since 1992, a further development location in Bratislava, Slovakia. At the end of the 1990s, the first company acquisitions were made, for example the structural engineering program provider Friedrich + Lochner or the Ainedtergruppe with software for the precast concrete industry, today's Precast Software Engineering.

The company, which has been trading as Nemetschek AG since 1994, went public in 1999 and is listed on the Prime Standard and the TecDAX . A number of company takeovers followed, including the largest acquisitions of the American Diehl Graphsoft (today Vectorworks with the product Vectorworks ) and Maxon Computer GmbH with its Cinema 4D software for visualization and animation. In 2006, two further pioneering acquisitions followed with the acquisition of the Hungarian Graphisoft with the main product ArchiCAD and the Belgian Scia International .

In November 2013, Nemetschek took over the supply technology solution provider Data Design System (DDS). In October 2014, the US software provider Bluebeam Software, Inc., a provider of PDF -based workflow solutions, was acquired. At the end of December 2015, Nemetschek took over the BIM specialist Solibri , the market leader in quality assurance and control for BIM. In March 2016, the name was changed from a stock corporation to a European company (SE) and in August 2016 another takeover of SDS / 2, a leading US provider of BIM-3D software for steel structures. The takeover of the Norwegian software provider dRofus followed in January 2017 . and in October 2017 that of the US structural engineering software company RISA Technologies .

In August 2018, Nemetschek took over MCS Solutions in Antwerp , which offers software solutions for real estate, facility and workplace management in large organizations and was later renamed Spacewell. The Nemetschek Group consists of sixteen independent brands that offer solutions along the entire value chain of the construction industry - from planning and construction to the use of a building or property.

In recent years there have been other takeovers at brand level, such as the acquisition of Redshift Rendering Technologies or Red Giant, both of which now belong to Maxon.

Since September 24, 2018, Nemetschek has been listed in the MDAX in addition to the TecDAX .

The Nemetschek Group and its individual brands are members of numerous leading industrial associations such as BuildingSMART eV, BVBS (Bundesverband Bausoftware), or German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) and have been advocates of open Building Information Modeling (BIM) standards ("open BIM “) In the AEC / O industry (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Operation).
