history

The company was created in 2002 from the merger of Carl Zeiss Ophthalmic Systems AG and Asclepion-Meditec AG and is 59.1% owned by the Carl Zeiss Group . The remaining shares in Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, which are listed in the MDAX and TecDAX , are in free float .

On October 21, 2004, Carl Zeiss Meditec announced the takeover of “Laser Diagnostic Technologies, Inc.” (LDT) from San Diego ( USA ), which was formally completed in December and strengthened the area of glaucoma diagnostics.

Between 2004 and 2006, Carl Zeiss Meditec gradually took over one hundred percent of the shares in the French intraocular lens manufacturer IOLTECH SA in La Rochelle , which later renamed Carl Zeiss Meditec SAS . In October 2007, the eye surgery specialist * Acri.Tec GmbH from Hennigsdorf was bought.

On June 1, 2011, * Acri.Tec GmbH , the surgical microscope manufacturer Carl Zeiss Surgical GmbH, as well as Carl Zeiss Meditec Systems GmbH and Carl Zeiss Medical Software GmbH - all four wholly owned subsidiaries of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG - were merged with the parent company.

On January 7, 2014, Carl Zeiss Meditec acquired Aaren Scientific Inc., a manufacturer of intraocular lenses in the USA.

The business activities of Carl Zeiss Meditec AG are organizationally divided into two strategic business units (SBUs). In the field of ophthalmology, the SBU Ophtalmic Devices offers laser and diagnostic systems and intraocular lenses (IOL) and the associated consumables. The SBU Microsurgery produces surgical microscopes , especially for use in ENT surgery and neurosurgery ; she is also active in the field of intraoperative radiation therapy .
