The Kion Group AG is a German provider of forklifts , warehouse technology and related services as well as supply chain solutions.

After Toyota Material Handling, the company is the world's second largest supplier of forklifts and warehouse technology equipment and the market leader in Europe. With the Dematic brand , Kion is a leading provider of automated material flow with supply chain and automation solutions. In the 2018 financial year, Kion generated sales of around EUR 8 billion with more than 33,000 employees.

In June 2013 the company went public in the Prime Standard of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange .

history

On August 1, 2006, Linde AG spun off its forklift division with Linde Material Handling , Still and OM Carrelli Elevatori  (OM) into the Kion Group GmbH . This was sold in November 2006 for 4 billion euros to the New York financial companies Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.  (KKR) and Goldman Sachs .

In 2009, which was a joint venture Kion Baoli (Jiangsu) Forklift Co., Ltd. founded under the leadership of the Kion Group. The Baoli brand produces and sells forklift trucks. In 2011, the Indian joint venture Voltas Material Handling was founded. It focuses on the Indian market.

At the end of August 2012, Kion and Weichai agreed that the Chinese company would take over a 25 percent stake. The remaining shares remained with KKR and Goldman Sachs.

On January 1, 2013, Kion spun off the hydraulics division from Linde Material Handling into the legally independent company Linde Hydraulics and sold 70% of these shares to Weichai Power . At the end of 2018, the Kion Group still held 10% of the shares in Linde Hydraulics.

The Kion Group went public on June 28, 2013 with up to 20% of the shares in free trading . In January 2014, after another share sale, the free float rose to around 30%, and then to 40% in the second quarter of 2014. In the further course, KKR and Goldman Sachs withdrew completely. In 2017, 56.6% of the shares were in free float, Weichai held 43.3% and the company itself 0.1%.

Kion's CEO is Gordon Riske; The chairman of the supervisory board is Michael Macht. The company's shares are listed on the Deutsche Börse under the symbol KGX and have been part of the MDAX on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since September 2014 .

On June 21, 2016, Kion announced the purchase of automation and supply chain optimization provider Dematic . The acquisition of Dematic was completed in November 2016.
