The Linde Material Handling GmbH is the world's second largest manufacturer of forklift trucks and warehouse equipment. The portfolio also includes intralogistics solutions such as fleet management, automation and driver assistance systems as well as services related to vehicles. Linde MH is represented in more than 100 countries with production and assembly plants as well as a global sales and service network.

The company was spun off from Linde AG in 2006 and is part of the KION Group . Headquarters and largest production site are in Aschaffenburg .

history

In 1904 Hugo Güldner , Carl von Linde and Georg von Krauss founded Güldner-Motoren-Gesellschaft GmbH in Munich , which moved to Aschaffenburg in 1907. In 1929 Linde's Eismaschinen Aktiengesellschaft bought all of the company's shares and gradually restructured the company. The most important products at that time were engines and farm tractors .

In the 1950s, the company fell into the red, but with the invention of the continuously variable hydrostatic transmission made a technological leap that made long-term success possible. The new drive technology was initially installed in the “Güldner Hydrocar” transport vehicle. In 1960 the first forklift truck with hydrostatic drive ("Hubtrac") followed.

In 1969 the company completely stopped the tractor production and from then on concentrated exclusively on the production and further development of forklifts and floor conveyors . As early as 1971, Linde presented an electric forklift truck at the Hanover Fair .

From the 1970s onwards, Linde took over several companies from the industry, such as the American industrial truck manufacturer Baker Material Handling Corporation in 1977, the French forklift manufacturer Fenwick in 1984 and the British forklift manufacturer Lansing Bagnall in 1989, the inventor of the reach truck. Since 1993 Linde has also been represented in China with the Linde-Xiamen forklift company.

On August 1, 2006, Linde Material Handling, up until then a division of Linde AG , was spun off as an independent GmbH in the newly founded KION Group . On January 1, 2013, the hydraulics division was spun off from Linde Material Handling into the legally independent company Linde Hydraulics .

In 2010 Linde added fuel cell devices to its range. The first vehicles with lithium-ion batteries followed in 2014 . The drive technology of Linde electric forklifts has been offered under the Linde eMotion label for applications such as electrically powered commercial vehicles or electric cars since 2011. In 2015, Linde presented the first automated vehicles in collaboration with Balyo and the connect: fleet management system.

In 2017, Linde bought the Dortmund start-up Comnovo, which deals with assistance systems for industrial vehicles.
