Hans-Jörg Koch (* 1931 ) is a former German judge . D. , wine lawyer and honorary professor at the University of Mainz.

Life

Hans-Jörg Koch studied at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and did his doctorate on wine law . In the course of his professional life he was active in the German Viticulture Association , in the Justice and Viticulture Ministry of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and also in the Federal Ministry of Health (participation in the draft wine law). After that he worked mainly as a judge, most recently as director of the Alzey district court .

Koch taught as a speaker and leader at wine law seminars for lawyers and wine experts. He was a lecturer in wine law at the German Judges Academy , the German Lawyers Academy and the Geisenheim University . He is also an honorary professor at the University of Mainz.

He has been researching and describing wine since the 1950s and is the author of the leading wine law commentary published by the German Wine Institute (DWI) since 1972 , the fourth and last printed edition of which appeared in 2008. The legal commentary, which has since been continued online under the leadership of Hans Eichele , deals with EU wine law with the relevant ordinances and guidelines as well as German wine law.

In addition to wine guides, he has also published publications on wine culture and Rheinhessen , as well as on the dialect and folklore of this region.

His son is the presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice Thomas Koch .

Memberships

Koch is an honorary member and scientific advisory board of the Society for the History of Wine eV as well as an honorary member of the Weingilde Bergstraße eV He is also a member of the scientific advisory boards at the Institute for Wine Law , the magazine for the entire food law , the Society for the History of Wine, the German Wine Museum , the German Wine Academy and the Protection Association of German Wine .

He is co-founder of the Honorable Mainz Wine Guild from 1443 and the Rheinhessen Wine Brotherhood, of which he was brother-master from 1970 - 1989. He is also an honorary member of the Palatinate Wine Brotherhood .
