Thomas Koch (lawyer)
Thomas Koch (born December 5, 1961 in Mainz ) is presiding judge at the Federal Court of Justice and honorary professor at the University of Cologne .
Life
Thomas Koch is the son of the judge and jurist Hans-Jörg Koch . After finishing school at Alzey high school , he first studied philosophy , political science and history . Only later did he switch to law as a subject. After completing his studies, he initially worked as a research assistant at the University of Mainz . He was a 1996 published dissertation entitled "Law, power and love in Richard Wagner's " Der Ring des Nibelungen "at Mainz University doctorate .
From 1992 Koch worked in the higher justice service in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . There he worked for the Mainz public prosecutor , the administration of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament , the Ministry of Justice of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate and the Mainz Regional Court . In 1996 he was appointed judge at the Mainz Regional Court. From 1999 to the end of 2001 he was seconded to the Federal Court of Justice as a research assistant. Since 2002 he has been a judge at the Higher Regional Court in Koblenz . Since August 16, 2006 he has been a judge at the Federal Court of Justice. At first he was the VIII. Civil Division , later the primarily responsible for the competition, trademark, copyright and transport law I. Civil Division assigned. From July 2014 he was its deputy chairman. Since July 2018 he has been chairman of the 1st Civil Senate.
Koch has been an honorary professor at the University of Cologne since 2014.
Thomas Koch is married, has three children and lives in Sörgenloch .
