Wolfgang Büscher (judge)

Wolfgang Büscher (born June 21, 1952 ) is a German lawyer with a doctorate , honorary professor at the University of Osnabrück and a former judge at the Federal Court of Justice . The focus of his work is trademark law and fair trading law .

Life

After completing his legal training and working as a lawyer for four and a half years, Büscher joined the higher judicial service in North Rhine-Westphalia in 1984. At the end of 1985 he was appointed judge at the Düsseldorf Regional Court and in November 1992 promoted to the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court . From 1995 to 1999 he was seconded to the Ministry of Justice of North Rhine-Westphalia . There he headed the department for filing, supervision and disciplinary matters, including legislation and questions of principle. On August 19, 1999, he was appointed judge at the Federal Court of Justice. Since then it has belonged to the person responsible primarily for competition, trademark and copyright law as well as transport lawI. Civil Senate , of which he was Deputy Chairman since November 2010. For this Senate, he was a member of the Joint Senate of the Supreme Courts of Justice of the Federation and a deputy member of the Grand Senate for Civil Matters since 2007 . From 2000 to 2011 he was also the representative of the permanent assessors in the federal service court and since 2005 a deputy member of the Senate for legal matters . In February 2007 the University of Osnabrück appointed him honorary professor. With effect from July 1, 2014, he was appointed as the successor to Joachim Bornkamm as Chairman of the First Civil Senate. After reaching the age limit, he retired on December 31, 2017.

Büscher is u. a. Co-editor of Büscher / Dittmer / Schiwy Intellectual Property Law - Copyright - Media Law, 3rd edition 2015, published by Carl Heymann Verlag in Cologne. He is also co-author of the commentary on the Code of Civil Procedure (4th edition from 2012 by de Gruyter, Berlin) ; Co-editor and co-author of the commentary on the UWG by Fezer / Büscher / Obergfell (3rd edition 2016 at CH Beck, Munich) and author of numerous commemorative and magazine articles.

Büscher is also co-editor of the journal Commercial Legal Protection and Copyright, Practice in Intellectual Property and Competition Law (GRUR-Prax) of the German Association for Commercial Legal Protection and Copyright (GRUR) .
