A few years ago it was completely renovated again (work ended in February 2006).

history
Mainz had been the place of jurisdiction for many centuries. With the establishment of the Donnersberg department as a result of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , a higher court was set up in Mainz for the jurisdiction of the second instance. This court continued to exist in the time of the Grand Duchy of Hesse . With the German Courts Constitution Act of 1877 , a nationwide uniform court organization was created for the first time. In the Grand Duchy, this new judicial organization was implemented with the Introductory Act of September 3, 1878 (and the Implementation Act of May 14, 1879). The lowest Mainz courts were combined as the Mainz District Court. Grand Duke Ludwig IV decreed on May 30, 1879 that the Higher, District and Commercial Court in Mainz should be repealed on October 1, 1879 and that the Regional Court for the province of Rheinhessen be established as the successor to the Higher Court. The also newly founded Higher Regional Court of Darmstadt was superordinate in the instance .

Angelika Blettner has been President of the Regional Court since December 4, 2012. Miss Dr. Ingrid Metzger has been Vice President of the Regional Court since August 1, 2018. A total of around 140 people are employed at the court, including 36 judges.

The Higher Regional Court of Koblenz is superordinate to the Mainz Regional Court and the Federal Court of Justice . Subordinate courts are the four district courts of Alzey , Bingen , Mainz and Worms .
