The Rohrbach correctional facility near the local community of Wöllstein is a correctional facility (JVA) of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . It is one of eight prisons in the state and the seat of the circulating transport authority for Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. In 2002 it replaced the old penal institutions JVA Kaiserslautern and JVA Mainz .
history
It was the first JVA that was built by the Landesbetrieb LBB ( Liegenschafts- und Baubetreuungsgesellschaft ) for the administration of justice and later rented to them.
Origin of name
Actually, the prison should bear the name of the place Wöllstein. Citizens' groups and the community rejected this name because it could damage its image. Therefore the nearby Rohrbach was named after the prison.
Location and layout
The JVA Rohrbach is located off the federal highway 420 between the places Wöllstein and Gau-Bickelheim . The street that leads from the B420 to the prison bears the name of the former Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of Justice, Peter Caesar . Friedrich-Ernst von Garnier designed the facades of the institution, which was visible from afar, in color.
Enforcement jurisdiction
The Rohrbach JVA is responsible for executing male and female prisoners and offers 450 places plus an expansion reserve.
