Kusen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kusen (from Ku "mouth" and sen "instruction") is the teaching of the master to the students during zazen in the Soto Zen Zen tradition. A kusen can consist of very simple but very important sentences for the practice of zazen, such as: B. Memories of the posture of body and mind: "Pull your chin back", "stretch your spine", "don't follow your thoughts" and the like. Ä. The instruction can also be very in-depth, e.g. B. Comments on texts and poems by ancient Zen masters. The instructions are not about a purely logical-rational understanding, but about a holistic, intuitive grasp of the instruction.
