Friedrich-Ernst von Garnier

Friedrich Ernst Theodor Felix Adam von Garnier (born August 13, 1935 in Breslau ) is a German artist , color philosopher, graphic artist , industrial designer , "color designer " and author .

family

Garnier comes from a Silesian noble family , which on Jean Baptiste Garnier, born in 1656 in Mont Saxonnet in France, goes back and his son Peter Garnier in 1729 in Vienna in the Bohemian knighthood was charged. Friedrich Ernst is the son of Air Force - Major Hans-Joachim von Garnier (1907-1997) and the Roswitha von Sethe (1912-1967).

Garnier married in 1960 in Marburg an der Lahn Hanneliese Gohl (born May 17, 1936 in Wiesbaden ; † August 4, 1979 in Lanzarote , Canary Islands ), the daughter of Jakob Gohl and Maria Wiegand. He has two sons and a daughter, the German film director Katja von Garnier (* 1966). Garnier married Elke Jacobs from Weimar on August 11, 2012.

Life

Garnier is considered a “color philosopher” and the founder of “ organic color ”, a discipline that can be assigned to bionics . His specialty is the architectural coloring (example: Lenné triangle in Berlin ) of social housing (example: prefabricated buildings in Weimar and Berlin) as well as of industrial plants (example: Schwelgern coking plant ). In the Höchst Industrial Park , he designed more than 70 buildings and facilities in color.

His work is considered to be evidence that architecture, buildings and production facilities do not just have to be a dreary gray.

In 1974 he modernized the colors of the football league jerseys on behalf of adidas . He also designed the “Pro Architectura” color collection for tiles from Villeroy & Boch Keramische Werke and for architectural membranes from Ferrari SA in France. In March 2002, Garnier developed a color proposal for a " Formula 1 " racing car on behalf of BMW . In 2004 the "ReflectionsOne" logo was created for ThyssenKrupp together with the collection of the same name. In Rhineland-Palatinate, he designed the facades of the power station building of Kraftwerke Mainz-Wiesbaden AG or the Rohrbach correctional facility in Wöllstein and the regional school in Eich , for which he received the state's economic medal .

Garnier ran his own “studio for color designs” on Hof Iben near Bad Kreuznach , which he founded in 1972 with Rabea Hartmann . In autumn 2012, the "Studio" filed for bankruptcy.

Organic colors

“Organic colors” is the doctrine of the necessity of multi-tone colors for the preservation of well-being and thus ultimately health. Garnier refers to the natural, sonorous play of colors in nature. There is no monotony in nature , he has been postulating since the 1960s. Every green tree, stone, flower, skin, hair, earth has a multitude of different colors / color gradients. From this point of view, he developed his theory of “organic colors”, which dispenses with monochrome colors on a large area and works with color tones.

The brain researcher Ernst Pöppel , former professor of the Institute for Medical Psychology at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , confirmed what Garnier feels intuitively and implements with artistic means .

Organic color was also the name of his contribution to the exhibition Organic Architecture in the Berlin Philharmonic in 2004 .
