The district courts of Kaiserslautern , Kusel and Rockenhausen belong to the judicial district . The Regional Court of Kaiserslautern is superordinated to the Palatinate Higher Regional Court with its seat in Zweibrücken and the Federal Court of Justice with its seat in Karlsruhe .
The two commercial criminal chambers set up at the Kaiserslautern Regional Court are responsible for all commercial criminal matters of the district of the Palatinate Higher Regional Court in Zweibrücken.

In the course of the Reich Justice Laws , which came into force in 1879, the royal Bavarian district court and later district court of Kaiserslautern, founded in 1817, was dissolved and replaced by the Kaiserslautern district court .

In 1944 the justice building burned down completely after a bomb attack. Thereupon the court was temporarily relocated to Wolfstein due to lack of space . In 1955 a new building was erected on Lauterstraße at the old location. In 2001 the regional court moved together with the district court , the public prosecutor's office, the labor court and social services to a new building near the main train station .
