Christopher "Chris" Kelly (born November 11, 1980 in Toronto , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach . During his playing career, the center played 937 games for the Ottawa Senators , Boston Bruins and Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League . With Boston he won the Stanley Cup in 2011 . He also represented the Canadian national team as captain for theOlympic Winter Games 2018 and won the bronze medal there with the team. He has been part of the Ottawa Senators' coaching team since September 2018.

Career

Chris Kelly began his career as an ice hockey player in Canada's top junior league, Ontario Hockey League , in which he was active from 1997 to 2001 for the London Knights and the Sudbury Wolves . During this time he was selected in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as a total of 94th player by the Ottawa Senators . First, however, he played in the 2001/02 season for Muskegon Fury from the United Hockey League and the American Hockey League - Ottawa's farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins . The following year, the attacker came again exclusively in the AHL for Ottawa's new farm team, the Binghamton Senators , before he made his debut in the National Hockey League for the Ottawa Senators in the 2003/04 season . The left shooter remained pointless and punished in four games.

With the exception of the lockout in the 2004/05 NHL season , which Kelly spent with the Binghamton Senators in the AHL, Kelly played until February 2011 exclusively for the NHL team of the Ottawa Senators. On February 15, 2011, he was given in a transfer deal in exchange for a second-round vote in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft to the Boston Bruins . In Boston, the attacker won the Stanley Cup right at the end of the season and subsequently stayed with the Bruins for another five years before his expiring contract was not extended after the 2015/16 season . He then returned to Ottawa and signed a one-year contract with the Senators in July 2016. He then accepted a trial offer from Edmonton Oilers in September 2017 , before auditioning for the Belleville Senators from the AHL on a trial basis after its termination from November 2017 . He was active there until January 2018.

After the Olympics, he signed a new NHL contract until the end of the season with the Anaheim Ducks . This was subsequently not renewed, so Kelly ended his active career and moved to the Ottawa Senators' coaching staff for the 2018/19 season.

International

Kelly made his international debut as part of the 2018 Winter Olympics , when he captained the Canadian selection, which competed without NHL players, to the bronze medal.
