Career
Louie Caporusso began playing ice hockey in his hometown of Toronto . In the 2004/05 season he played for the Toronto Red Wings in the Greater Toronto Hockey League. There he was the top scorer in the league with 70 points in 56 games. The next year he moved to the St. Michael's Buzzers in the Ontario Provincial Junior Hockey League. There he won the championship with his team. In the 2006/07 season, as in the previous year, he was one of the best players on his team. In the 2007 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in 90th place by the Ottawa Senators .
He then played for the University of Michigan team called Michigan Wolverines , with which he won the 2008 Central Collegiate Hockey Association championship. In the 2008/09 season he was one of the top performers on his team, scoring 49 points in 41 games. He has received numerous awards for his achievements, including a nomination for the Hobey Baker Memorial Award . The next year Caporusso won the championship of the CCHA again with the Wolverines . In the NCAA series for the national championship you lost in the quarterfinals. In his senior year he was one of the assistant captains and finished the regular season with his team as the best on points. He also played in front of over 100,000 spectators at the then world record game The Big Chill at the Big House . In the playoffs the CCHA was third and could again qualify for the NCAA series. There Caporusso and his team reached the final in the Frozen Four final tournament, which was lost to the University of Minnesota Duluth after extra time .
On May 30, 2011, he signed his first professional contract when he received a two-year entry level contract from the Ottawa Senators . After attending the Senators' training camp, he was sent to the farm teams . Caporusso played in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons in the American Hockey League for the Binghamton Senators and in the ECHL for the Elmira Jackals . While he was able to confirm his performance from college in the ECHL, he had problems establishing himself in the AHL. After his contract expired, Caporusso received no new offer from the senators. Therefore, he signed with the Reading Royals from the ECHL in August 2013 . By the end of the year he had scored 28 points in 24 games there.
In January 2014 he moved to the German Ice Hockey League for the Augsburger Panthers . After 21 points in 19 games, he extended his contract there by one year in March 2014. In the 2014/15 season he was the Panther's top scorer with 38 points in 47 games. In June 2015 he moved to league competitor Iserlohn Roosters . There he extended his contract for a year in January 2016 and was also the top scorer of his team. After two years in Iserlohn, Caporusso moved to Brynäs IF in the Svenska Hockeyligan for the 2017/18 season .
