Patrick Eaves (born May 1, 1984 in Calgary , Alberta , Canada ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League since February 2017 and at the same time for their farm team, the San Diego Gulls , in of the American Hockey League plays in the position of the right winger . He is the son of Mike Eaves , who was on the ice for the Minnesota North Stars and Calgary Flames in the NHL between 1978 and 1986 .
Career
The 1.83 m tall striker played for Boston College in Hockey East , a college league run by the National Collegiate Athletic Association , before being selected as the 29th player in the first round by the Ottawa Senators in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft .
Eaves was first used in the farm team , the Binghamton Senators , in the American Hockey League , but during the 2005/06 season the right-handed shooter completed his first NHL games for the Ottawa Senators due to the good performance in the lower division and was then part of the permanent staff .
In 2007 Eaves was nominated for the YoungStars Game taking place in the framework of the NHL All-Star Game , where he played for the Eastern Conference team . In February 2008, Eaves was transferred to the Carolina Hurricanes by the Senators . After a season as a regular with the Hurricanes, he was released on July 24, 2009 to the Boston Bruins , for which he did not play. On August 4, 2009, he signed a contract with the Detroit Red Wings . In the 2009/10 season he was in 65 games for the Red Wings, scored twelve goals, gave ten assists and collected 22 points.
In November 2013 Eaves was put on the waiver and will play for the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL until a possible change. In March 2014, the Red Wings gave him to the Nashville Predators together with Calle Järnkrok and a right to vote for the 2014 NHL Entry Draft and received David Legwand in return . He played five games for the Predators by the end of the season before joining the Dallas Stars as a free agent in July 2014 . There he was on the ice until February 2017 before he was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks for a second-round vote in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft . Should Anaheim reach the conference finals and Eaves complete at least half of the games, the second round becomes a first-round option; these conditions were met in mid-May.
At the beginning of the 2017/18 season, Eaves was diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome , so he was out the rest of the season. Also in the following year he did not have enough playing time due to an injury, so that he was temporarily used in the farm team of the Ducks, the San Diego Gulls from the AHL. In the 2019/20 season, the striker was also completely out of action
