Alexandre Giroux (born June 16, 1981 in Québec City , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Grenoble Métropole Hockey 38 from Ligue Magnus since July 2017 .

Giroux began his career in 1998 with the Hull Olympiques in the Canadian Junior League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League . There he played three seasons until he moved within the league to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies during the 2000/01 season. He collected 226 points, including 111 goals, before starting his professional career for the 2001/02 season with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League .

In the 1999 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the seventh round in 213th place by the Ottawa Senators , but never made it into the NHL Senators roster. After three seasons in the Ottawa farm team, he was transferred to the New York Rangers at the trade deadline in spring 2004 together with Karel Rachůnek . In return, Greg de Vries moved to Ottawa.

In the summer of 2006 Giroux signed as a free agent a contract with the Washington Capitals , where he came to nine missions in the NHL during the 2006/07 season . He scored four points scorer. After spending most of the season only in the AHL, he switched to the Atlanta Thrashers organization for the 2007/08 season , which transferred him back to Washington after 44 games for the Chicago Wolves .

The 2008-09 season was a very successful season for Giroux. On January 17, 2009, he broke the AHL record for goals in consecutive games by scoring in 15 consecutive games. The previous record holder was Brett Hull . On April 10, 2009 Giroux was awarded the Les Cunningham Award for most valuable player in the AHL. He also won the Calder Cup with the Hershey Bears at the end of the season . In July 2010 he moved to the Edmonton Oilers , who used him mainly in the farm team, the Oklahoma City Barons .

On July 4, 2011 Giroux signed a two-way contract for one year with the Columbus Blue Jackets , but was again mainly used with the Springfield Falcons in the AHL.

At the end of May 2012 he received a contract with Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League (KHL). In June 2013 he was appointed by HC Ambri-Piotta from the National League A committed. In three years with Ambrì he came in 167 NLA appearances on 77 goals and 56 assists. In July 2016 he was signed by Medvescak Zagreb from the KHL.
