Greg de Vries (born January 4, 1973 in Sundridge , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 989 games for the Edmonton Oilers , Nashville Predators , Colorado Avalanche , New York Rangers , Ottawa during his playing career between 1991 and 2009 Senators and Atlanta Thrashers has played in the National Hockey League on the position of fullback . De Vries celebrated his greatest career success in the service of the Colorado Avalanche by winning the Stanley Cup in 2001 .
Career
Greg de Vries was never drafted by a team , but he made the leap into the National Hockey League when the Edmonton Oilers signed him in 1994 . He previously played for Bowling Green State University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's gaming operations between 1991 and 1992 . then he had spent two years with the Niagara Falls Thunder in the Ontario Hockey League .
In the 1995/96 season he played his first NHL game for the Oilers. His greatest achievement is winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001 . After playing for Colorado for more than three seasons, he signed with the New York Rangers , but was transferred to the Ottawa Senators at the end of the season for Karel Rachůnek and Alexandre Giroux . After the lockout , Greg de Vries and Marián Hossa were transferred to the Atlanta Thrashers for Dany Heatley . On July 2, 2007, De Vries signed a one-year contract with the Nashville Predators, for whom he had played in 1998. In the summer of 2009, the defender ended his active career at the age of 36.
