The 1947/48 season was the twelfth regular season of the American Hockey League (AHL). During the regular season, the league's eleven teams played 68 games each. The six best teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round for the Calder Cup .

Calder Cup playoffs
mode
The six best teams in the American Hockey League qualified for the play-offs. In the first play-off round, the first of the Eastern Division met the first of the Western Division, the second of the Eastern Division met the second of the Western Division, and the third of the Easer Division met the third of the Western Division. The two winners from the duels between the teams in places two and three then met in the second round, while the winner from the duel between the two division winners was automatically qualified for the final by a bye . The first two play-off rounds took place in the best-of-three mode, with the two division winners playing for the finals in the best-of-seven mode. The final itself was also played in best-of-seven mode.
