The 1950/51 season was the 15th regular season of the American Hockey League (AHL). During the regular season, the ten teams in the league were supposed to play 70 games each, but the schedule had to be changed due to the early financial end of the New Haven Eagles . The six best teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round for the Calder Cup .
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The New Haven Ramblers changed their name to New Haven Eagles
- The New Haven Eagles stopped playing after 28 games

Calder Cup playoffs
mode
The six best teams in the American Hockey League qualified for the play-offs. In the first play-off round, the first of the Eastern Division met the first of the Western Division, the second of the Eastern Division met the second of the Western Division, and the third of the Easer Division met the third of the Western Division. The two winners from the duels between the teams in places two and three then met in the second round, while the winner from the duel between the two division winners was automatically qualified for the final by a bye . The first two play-off rounds took place in the best-of-five mode, with the two division winners playing for the finals in the best-of-seven mode. The final itself was also played in best-of-seven mode.
