The 1956/57 season was the 21st regular season of the American Hockey League (AHL). During the regular season, the six teams in the league played 64 games each. The four best teams in the AHL then played in a play-off round for the Calder Cup .
Team changes
The following changes were made before the start of the season:
- The Pittsburgh Hornets were relocated to Rochester , New York and from then on played under the name Rochester Americans
