The 1936/37 season was the first regular season of the International-American Hockey League (from 1940 American Hockey League - AHL), which was created by the merger of the International Hockey League and the Canadian-American Hockey League . During the regular season, the eight teams were supposed to play 48 games each, but the Buffalo Bisons had to stop playing after eleven games for financial reasons.
