Real croatzberry from 1932

True Kroatzbeere is a ruby red blackberry - liqueur with an alcohol content of 30  vol% . The juice of wild blackberries is used in the production.

history

The trained distiller Moritz Thienelt had been running his brother Max Thienelt's brewery bar in Schlegel , who had inherited a 300-year-old brewery from his father. Schlegel was part of the Neurode district in the historic County of Glatz . As a distiller he was interested in the wild blackberries, which were abundant in the forests and popularly known as "croatzberries" because of the thorns on the bush. He processed it into a liqueur , which he called Thienelt's Echte Grafschaft Glatzer mountain croatberry. The liqueur quickly enjoyed great popularity among its guests and the "refreshment stop for the real crocodile" is said to have developed into a "temple of pleasure".

In order to meet the demand, the fine schnapps factory zur Echte Kroatzbeere was established in 1937 as a modern production facility . New products such as Schüttboden , a men's liqueur based on caraway seeds , and the specialty Kuss mit Liebe (real croatzberry with cocoa and nut liqueur) were also produced here. In addition to Silesia and East Germany, the liqueurs were soon also available in Berlin, Leipzig, Hanover, Frankfurt am Main, Düsseldorf and Essen. Various imitations by competitors led to lawsuits up to the Reichsgericht in Leipzig, which confirmed the protection of the brand and its features.

Moritz Thienelt died in 1939, and his son Moritz jun. continued the company. The outbreak of World War II stopped further expansion plans and led to state-ordered Wehrmacht deliveries until 1945. In November 1946, the Thienelt family was expelled from Silesia .

Under difficult conditions, the production for real croats was rebuilt in 1949 in Düsseldorf in leased premises. In 1956 Arno-Moritz Thienelt joined the family company as a partner and managing director. The development of exports and worldwide sales of the brand took place under his leadership. In 1957, in the 50th anniversary year, production was resumed in its own production facility in Holzbüttgen near Düsseldorf. In 1961 the most modern liqueur factory according to the company was inaugurated. The son of the company founder, Moritz Thienelt, died in July 1991.

The increasing centralization of the food trade led to the sale of the Echte Kroatzbeere brand to the Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben company in 1997, in the ninetieth year of foundation . The liqueur was initially produced in Berlin by the subsidiary Bärensiegel , and it was distributed by Moritz Thienelt GmbH . BärenSiegel GmbH now belongs to Nordbrand Nordhausen and no longer produces, while Moritz Thienelt GmbH has completely merged with Franz Wilhelm Langguth Erben GmbH & Co. KG.
