Sonja Zekri

Sonja Zekri (* 1967 in Dortmund ) is a German journalist and author . Her main focus is on the Middle East , Eastern Europe , culture and religion .

Life

Zekri studied history and Slavic studies at the University of Bochum . After a stay in Russia, she attended the Henri Nannen School for Journalism in Hamburg , after which she worked for FAZ, stern and ZDF. From 2001 she was a permanent editor in the features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung . She participated as co-editor and author of the 17-part series Deutschland extreme , which was first published in the SZ and then in book form in 2004. This series is about supposedly "unusual" records in Germany. She has also published numerous articles on topics related to Russia. From 2008 to 2011 she was the SZ correspondent in Moscow. Since April 2011 she has been reporting from Cairo as a correspondent for the SZ and the Tages-Anzeiger on the Arab region.

Since 2015 she leads together with Andrian Kreye the resort features section of the Süddeutsche Zeitung .
