Schneidhausen mit Welk is a residential area in the municipality of Kreuzau in the Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

The place is located directly on the Rur in the Rureifel . A transition from Kreuzau to Schneidhausen is barely visible due to today's buildings. Neighboring towns are Kreuzau, Lendersdorf , Niederau and Kufferath . The Düren – Heimbach railway runs past the village .

history

Reorganization

As a result of the reorganization of the Aachen area ( Aachen law ), the municipalities of Obermaubach-Schlagstein and Untermaubach, the district of Langenbroich from the municipality of Hürtgenwald and the districts of Schneidhausen and Welk from the municipality of Lendersdorf were incorporated into the municipality of Kreuzau with effect from January 1, 1972 - the Niederau community came to Düren. Today's municipality of Kreuzau consists of the districts Bogheim, Boich, Drove, Kreuzau, Leversbach, Obermaubach with Schlagstein, Stockheim, Thum, Üdingen, Untermaubach with Bilstein and Winden with Bergheim and Langenbroich.

In the 18th century, Leonhard Hoesch (1684–1761), who had previously managed Neuenhammer in the Stolberg district of Vicht , founded and operated a paper factory and a steel mill in Schneidhausen . The entire company remained in the possession of the Hoesch family for five generations . Today's Hoesch Design GmbH bathtub factory emerged from the ironworks and is one of the largest bathtub manufacturers in Europe.

Schneidhausen lies on the now disused Distelrath – Schneidhausen railway . The Düren – Heimbach railway runs past the village.

Others

Until 1980 there was the Parkrestaurant in Schneidhausen, which was called the “good room” of the city of Düren .

The company headquarters Haus Schneidhausen of the Hoesch family with the Schneidhausen rolling mill and the three-wing courtyard as well as the two-storey residential building, all built from rubble stones around 1743 , are listed as historical monuments .
