Thum [ tʊm ] is a district of the municipality Kreuzau in the district of Düren , North Rhine-Westphalia .

location

Thum is the Rureifel in the North Eifel Nature Park on the edge of the Zülpicher Börde . Neighboring towns are Drove , Berg-Thuir and Froitzheim . Thum borders the Drover Heide .

history

General

Thum is an ancient settlement area. Archaeological finds suggest a Celto-Roman settlement. Romans settled south of the current place. Thum used to be a center of the matron cult . A consecration stone was found near Sinzenich in the Eifel , which indicates a sanctuary of the Matronae Thummaestae .

The abandoned Thum missile station is near Thum .

Gut Schnorrenberg

The manor was between Drove and Thum. It belonged to a Nickel family (probably from Pier near Düren). The courtyard is mentioned as deserted as early as 1700 . The field name Schnorrenberger Heid still reminds of this farm today.

Manorial power

Since the 13th century, Thum had been its own manorial estate that belonged to Jülich . Thuir and Pissenheim as well as parts of evenings and mountain belonged to the glory .

Reorganization

On July 1, 1969, the municipality of Thum was incorporated into the municipality of Kreuzau with six other places.

As a result of the reorganization of the Aachen area ( Aachen law ), the municipalities of Obermaubach-Schlagstein and Untermaubach, the district of Langenbroich from the municipality of Hürtgenwald and the districts of Schneidhausen and Welk from the municipality of Lendersdorf were incorporated into the municipality of Kreuzau with effect from January 1, 1972 - the Niederau community came to Düren. Today's municipality of Kreuzau consists of the districts Bogheim, Boich, Drove, Kreuzau, Leversbach, Obermaubach with Schlagstein, Stockheim, Thum, Üdingen, Untermaubach with Bilstein and Winden with Bergheim and Langenbroich.

church

The first chapel was built in the 15th century and dedicated to the three saints Fides, Spes and Caritas . The current church was consecrated in 1905.

traffic

The state road from Drove to Berg (L 250) runs along the village . Buses of the Düren district railway go with the line 211 through the place. The L 33 from Froitzheim towards Nideggen also runs past the village.

kindergarten

In Thum there is a municipal kindergarten for 25 children.

Association

In addition to a fire fighting group from the Kreuzau volunteer fire brigade, there is a sports club and a carnival society .
