St. Fides, Spes, Caritas in Thum

St. Fides, Spes, Caritas is a Roman Catholic branch church in Thum, a district of the Kreuzau community in the Düren district in North Rhine-Westphalia . The church belongs to the parish of St. Martin, Drove .

history

A chapel in Thum is documented for the first half of the 16th century. It was probably built at the instigation of the Counts of Nesselrode, who lived in the neighboring castle. The chapel was expanded in the 17th century and the patronage of Fides, Spes and Caritas appears. The choir was late Gothic and the nave was baroque . This church was demolished in March 1905.

The current church building was built between 1906 and 1907 in the neo-Gothic style as a hall church with a three-sided choir in the east and a slated roof turret in the west. The structure was built from red sandstone .

Until the 1960s, the place belonged to the parish of St. Clemens / Berg and was only then changed to Drove.

Furnishing

There is a neo-Gothic high altar in the church . The stained glass windows were created by the glass painter Julius Brand around 1935.
