St. Gereon in Boich

St. Gereon is the Roman Catholic parish of Kreuzauer hamlet Boich in Düren in North Rhine-Westphalia . The chapel in Leversbach also belongs to the parish .

The building is entered under No. 1 in the list of architectural monuments in Kreuzau and is dedicated to St. Consecrated to Gereon of Cologne .

history

In 1754 and 1755 a baroque chapel was built in Boich . It is unclear whether there was a church before. In any case, the place has always belonged to the parish of St. Martin, Drove . On December 5, 1863, Boich and Leversbach were awarded the status of rectorate within the Drove parish. At that time there was already a chapel in the village. On April 24, 1953, the Boich-Leversbach Rectorate was finally completely separated from Drove and made an independent parish .

Today's church was built between 1903 and 1905 in neo-Gothic form as a three-aisled and three-bay hall church with a choir closed on three sides . The structure consists of red sandstone . The church was consecrated in 1905.

During the Second World War , the upper floors of the narrow bell tower , which is located in the south-western corner of the building, were destroyed. This was rebuilt in simple forms after the war.

Since the parish was raised, the Boich church was raised from the rank of a branch church to a parish church.

Furnishing

In the interior there is still the original equipment from the time of construction in neo-Gothic forms. Particularly noteworthy is the richly decorated high altar . The two side altars are baroque . They probably come from the previous church. The stained glass windows created Heinrich Geuer in 1967th

Bells

In the narrow bell tower there are four bronze bells, three of which were cast by Hans Hüesker from Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock in Gescher in 1954.
