Mill pond, Kreuzauer / Niederauer pond including weir | Kreuzau districts Kreuzau and Winden map |
In the 19th century, Kreuzau and Niederauer ponds were two separate watercourses. The Kreuzau pond has been documented since 1303. The Niederauer pond was formerly on the territory of the subordinate Burgau, which operated an oil and grinding mill in the middle of the 18th century. The Friedenau paper mill owned by the Hoesch family at Niederauer Teich at the beginning of the 19th century still exists today, the structure of the Niederauer mill has been preserved, and the cloth mill founded in 1836 by the Schoeller brothers still exists in the center of Niederau. The Kreuzauer / Niederauer pond extends from the derivation from the Rur to the transition in the Düren area over a length of 4 to 5 km. At the level of the pond bridge “Am Wassergarten”, the water “Spich” branches off and flows back into the pond in the street “Im Dröhl”. As a flood ditch, the side arm is part of the water regulation, is part of the functionality and thus part of the monument. | 19th century | December 06, 2007 | 117 |

Mill pond, Lendersdorfer pond including weir | Kreuzau districts Kreuzau and Winden map |
The Lendersdorfer pond probably goes back to individual short sections. The sections in Lendersdorf and Mariaweiler are dated to the High Middle Ages, in the lower reaches even to the Middle Ages. A merger of the sections took place at the latest in 1180. On the pond existed manors that go into the early Middle Ages. In Lendersdorf, for example, the Aachener Adalberstift, the Counts of Jülich and the Lords of Birgel owned farms and manors with their own courts. Mills were operated in Lendersdorf at the latest since 1348. There were 4 mills in the Lendersdorf court: the Count's mill in Lendersdorf, the mill of Adalbertstift, the mill of Engelbrecht Vieth zu Birgel and another mill. The count's mill was built between 1303 and 1348. An ironworks, the Lendersdorfer Hütte, was operated in its vicinity between 1613 and 1913. Here, steel was produced from the Lendersdorf iron stone. In 1804 the plant included a smelter, a foundry, a hammer mill and a cutting mill. From 1820 the hut was owned by the Hoesch family. The other mills are in the Düren area. | 18th century | December 06, 2007 | 118 |
