history

Winden has always belonged to the parish of St. Heribert Kreuzau and had its own branch church since 1784 . Since 1823 the people of Winden have made efforts to found their own parish . In 1866, Winden was finally separated from Kreuzau and raised to an independent parish. At this time, the population of Winden grew rapidly, so it was decided to build a new parish church. The first pastor of Winden, Gottfried Sénéchaute, began planning a new church in 1875. Construction began in 1887 and today's church was completed by the end of 1889. On December 8, 1889, the new church was benediziert . The consecration ( church consecration ) did not take place until two years later, on June 7, 1891, by the Cologne auxiliary bishop Antonius Fischer . At the same time he also consecrated the high altar and the two side altars, which are still preserved today.
