history

A chapel in Obermaubach was first mentioned in the 16th century. At that time the place was a branch of the parish Kreuzau . In the 18th century, Minorites from Nideggen looked after the place pastorally.

During the French period , Obermaubach was parish from Kreuzau in 1804 and came to the newly founded parish of Untermaubach as a subsidiary parish . On May 20, 1957, the branch community was granted property independence. The place only became an independent parish on January 17, 1971.

Building history

Nothing is known about the chapel mentioned in the 16th century. In 1658 a new chapel was built and St. Trinity consecrated. 130 years later, in 1788, this chapel was again demolished and replaced by a new church; today it serves as a side chapel of the parish church. The benediction took place on January 30, 1792. When the patronage of St. Apollinaris changed is not exactly known.

In the first decades of the 20th century, the chapel building association intended to expand the small chapel. The association commissioned the Düren architect Theodor Jansen to design an extension. In 1921 he presented the plans for today's parish church. He planned a new church directly on the west side of the small chapel, so that it can only be accessed via the church. In 1932 the plan could finally be implemented and the new church was added to the chapel from 1788. The damage caused by the Second World War could be repaired by 1950. These particularly affected the roof.

Building description

St. Apollinaris is a single-nave hall church made of quarry stone in the form of homeland security architecture in a north-south orientation. It has three axes with a three-sided choir closure in the north. A small rectangular roof turret with a pyramid roof rises above the gable of the south wall, in which the main portal is also located . The interior is vaulted by a pliest barrel with lance caps . At the southern end of the west wall, i.e. to the right of the main portal, there is a semicircular chapel extension. This is the chapel from 1788.

Furnishing

In the interior there was originally a neo-Gothic interior, but this has not been preserved. Today's altar in the choir is made of marble with a concrete base. Furthermore, there are wooden figures of Our Lady , St. Apollinaris, St. Michaels , St. Joseph and St. Antony of Padua . The mechanical organ has 7 registers and was made in 1978 by the organ builder Heinz Wilbrand from Übach-Palenberg . The seven stained glass windows are works by Werner Eckgold .
