history

parish

A church in Drove was first mentioned in the Liber valoris from around 1308. At that time Drove was already an independent parish . Until 1804, the parish also included the Schlagstein branch , which was added to the new Untermaubach parish in 1804 , Rath bei Nideggen , it came to the Nideggen parish in 1804 , and Oberschneidhausen , which had to be ceded to the Kreuzau parish. Since then, the branches Boich , Leversbach , Üdingen and Thum have belonged to the Drover parish . In 1953, Boich and Leversbach were finally separated from Drove and raised to an independent parish, so that today only Thum and Üdingen belong to the Drover parish as branches.

Church building

The Drover church is a three-aisled hall church with a three-sided closed choir and built-in bell tower, which essentially dates from the 15th / 16th centuries. Century. It was built from rubble stones in the Gothic style. Minor changes were made to the structure in the 18th century. The main choir and the southern side choir were built around 1900. The north choir is still Gothic. The sacristy was added around 1929. The damage of the Second World War was repaired by 1959.

Furnishing

In the Drover Church there is a neo-Gothic high altar from the second half of the 19th century, a triumphal cross and pews from the same period. There is also a baroque Matthias altar from the second half of the 17th century in the north aisle . The baroque font dates from the 17th century. Most of the leaded glass windows were created by Hans Lohbeck in 1964. However, two historical windows have survived: a crucifixion window by an unknown artist from 1538 and a window with depictions of St. Martin and St. Matthias by Franz Melchior from 1920.

Bells

There are three valuable medieval bronze bells in the bell tower . The largest bell is a work by Jan van Trier from 1597, the middle and the smallest bell are probably casts by Conradus von Isbroich from the 14th century. In the roof turret is a bell by Werner Hüesker from Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock from Gescher from 1929.
