location
Rath is located on an ascending mountain slope to the Eifel, the Mausauel, in the Rureifel in the Eifel National Park north of Nideggen at about 380 m above sea level . From Rath you can see almost the entire Cologne Bay . The Cologne Cathedral and the Siebengebirge are easy to see on a clear day.

history
Until 1804 the village belonged to the Drove domain . Then Rath came to Nideggen first in church and later also in administrative terms. The name Rath , known to place name research as a typical forest and roden name, points to a Franconian foundation of the place. Archaeological finds suggest a Roman settlement in the first centuries after Christ.
Rath was first mentioned in a feudal deed of the Lords von Heinsberg and Blankenheim from 1307.
