Obermaubach is a district of the municipality of Kreuzau in the Düren district in the Rureifel and in the Eifel National Park . The Schlagstein residential area belongs to Obermaubach . On December 31, 2008, Obermaubach had a total of 1,403 and Schlagstein 239 inhabitants (primary residences).

Obermaubach is located on the north edge of the Eifel in the Rureifel in the North Eifel Nature Park , directly on the Rur , which is dammed into the Obermaubach reservoir. The place is surrounded on three sides by the Eifel Mountains . The towns of Nideggen , Bergstein and Bogheim are located on the heights . Down the Rur lies Untermaubach .

On January 6, 1152, the "Grafschaft Molbach" was mentioned for the first time in a document. The place was mentioned in 1243 as a Nideggen exclave in the area of ​​the former Untermaubach rule .

On January 1, 1972, the municipality of Obermaubach-Schlagstein was incorporated into Kreuzau.

Since the end of 2006 Obermaubach-Schlagstein has had a new coat of arms.

It consists of the following basic elements:

  • The black lion on a golden background was borrowed from the original coat of arms of the Duchy of Jülich. Obermaubach-Schlagstein was part of the Nideggen office from around 1313 to 1804. From 1804 to 1971 these districts belonged to the Nideggen office.
  • The blue wave symbolizes the course of the Rur and the reservoir.
  • The green color stands for flora and fauna .
  • The water wheel reflects the grain mill (first mentioned around 1100 AD, documented from 1500 to 1960 AD) and the oil mill (mentioned 1805 to 1865 on today's property at Seestrasse 15).

The chapel dedicated to St. Apollinaris was first mentioned in the 16th century. It was rebuilt in 1778. Obermaubach has only been an independent parish since January 17, 1971 .

Castle

Obermaubach Castle was a tower hill castle (Motte). It was at today's entrance to the village. Not much is left of the formerly politically important official seat of the Waldgrave.

"Burg Molbach" - named after the Mühlbach (today Rinnebach) flowing by - was built by Count Albert von Nörvenich , who from 1152 onwards called himself Albert von Molbach in all documents .

The Rurufer cycle path leads along the Rur from Untermaubach towards Zerkall . The Düren – Heimbach railway runs next to it . The following cycle paths also run past the village:

The Obermaubach stop is on the Düren – Heimbach railway line on the opposite side of the reservoir from the village. The main road in town leads from Untermaubach past the St. Apollinaris church in the direction of Kleinhau and Brandenberg . Tempo 30 applies throughout the local area.
