Quarry stone house in Langenbroich
|
Langenbroich (spoken: Langenbrooch ) is the smallest district in the Kreuzau community , Düren district , North Rhine-Westphalia . Langenbroich is located in the northern Eifel , not far from the Hürtgen Forest in the Rureifel recreation area .
The Heinrich-Böll-Haus Langenbroich is located in Langenbroich , a former home of Heinrich and Annemarie Böll , a former farmhouse that they bought in 1966. Langenbroich became world famous in February 1974 when Heinrich Böll welcomed the Nobel Prize for Literature Alexander Solzhenitsyn , who had been expelled from the former Soviet Union , to his home. The house is now a refuge for persecuted artists who, with the help of a grant , can go about their work undisturbed for some time.
In Langenbroich there is the Kreuzau branch church of St. Mariä Vermählung , a baroque hall church built from quarry stone at the beginning of the 18th century .
In the forest around Langenbroich there are traces of mining from the past centuries. I.a. there is the ruin of a factory that was built there by the English in the second half of the 19th century, but was abandoned in the 1870s.
Until 1969 Langenbroich belonged to the Strass-Bergstein office, which was added to the Hürtgenwald municipality on July 1, 1969. On January 1, 1972 were to Kreuzau umgemeindet .
