Jewish cemetery (Drove)
The Jewish cemetery in Drove , a district of the Kreuzau community , is located between Drove and Thum on Landesstrasse 250 on Bruchberg in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).
The Jews from Kreuzau and Nideggen used the cemetery as early as 1663. The last burial dates from June 1, 1941. The property is 1611 m². There are 60 tombstones ( mazewot ) on the burial ground . In September 1962 a 2.50 m high memorial made of shell limestone was erected with the inscription: "For the victims of National Socialism". Since March 26, 1985 the cemetery has been included in the municipality's list of monuments .
The writer Heinrich Böll , who lived in nearby Langenbroich for a long time , mentioned the cemetery several times in his essay Die Juden von Drove from 1984.
