The Jewish cemetery Embken is a Jewish cemetery in Embken , a district of the city of Nideggen in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The cemetery is located on Mühlenberg above the Neffelbach near Nick's mill.

history

The cemetery was the burial place of the Jewish communities of Embken and Berg . The cemetery, which was probably laid out in the 1880s, has been a protected cultural monument since 1991 . 26 grave sites are still recognizable today and more than twelve tombstones ( Mazewot ) or tombstone fragments are present. In 1956 the burial place was repaired for the first time. The Embken-Muldenau youth fire brigade renovated the cemetery, which was then reopened in November 2010. As part of a sponsorship, the youth fire brigade also looked after the cemetery in 2011.

Desecrations

The cemetery was completely devastated during the National Socialist era . In 1985, 1987 and 1988 the cemetery was desecrated several times, all tombstones were overturned, some were smashed and one tombstone was stolen.
