The Jewish cemetery is located in Rödingen , a district of the municipality of Titz in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ).

Another testimony to the former Jewish community of Rödingen is the only surviving synagogue in the Düren district , the former synagogue of Titz-Rödingen . In 2009 the LVR Kulturhaus Landsynagoge Rödingen was established here. Those interested can now visit the synagogue and a permanent exhibition on rural youth in the Rhineland. The cultural center also offers guided tours of the cemetery.

history

The Jewish cemetery was laid out before 1745. In 1820 Philipp Ullmann bought a plot of land on the southern outskirts to expand the cemetery. In 1860 it was expanded again to twelve ares . In 1939 the property had to be sold. The then farmer and honorary mayor C. bought the property for 600 Reichsmarks. A 30-year rest period was set, starting with the last burial in 1935. In 1954, part of the cemetery was restored. There are still 15 tombstones ( mazewot ) left. Today the cemetery is in a residential area. He is surrounded by a wall. The tombs are placed on three sides of the wall. Before 1938/1945 there were other tombs on the site, but nothing specific is known about their whereabouts.

The cemetery was entered into the list of monuments by the municipality of Titz on April 24, 1986. The description of the monument reads: 19th century green area surrounded by a brick wall, gravestones erected on the wall, mostly made of sandstone, inner surface lawn. Significant for human history, worth preserving for scientific, especially local historical reasons
