Jewish cemetery (Linnich)
The Jewish cemetery Linnich is a Jewish cemetery in Linnich , a town in the Düren district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The cemetery is on Schützengasse, outside the former city fortifications .
history
Jews have been traceable in Linnich since the middle of the 14th century. The cemetery was first mapped in 1821, and it may have been laid out as early as the 18th century.
The cemetery, which was expanded in the 19th century, has an area of 1297 m² . Today there are 29 tombstones ( Mazewot ), the oldest is from 1824. The last burial took place in 1952 (Bernhard Baum).
Commemoration
In 1971 a memorial stone was unveiled with the following inscription:
In memory of our fellow Jewish citizens who found their resting place here. And those who perished in the years 1933-1945.
