description

The Madrid trade fair company IFEMA (Institución Ferial de Madrid) was founded in 1980 by the Autonomous Region of Madrid together with the city council, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Caja Madrid savings bank . After it was founded, IFEMA initially operated a small exhibition center in the “Casa de Campo” green area near the city center.

The IFEMA exhibition center, which was newly opened in 1991, has a hall area of 200,000 m². The last expansion by two halls with a total of 50,000 m² took place in 2007. With a total area of 970,000 m² and a total of 12 halls, Madrid is as big as Bologna Fiere in Italy or the SNIEC ( Shanghai New International Expo Center ).

IFEMA is a member of the Spanish trade fair association AFE, the European association EMECA ( European Major Exhibition Centers Association ) and the world association of the trade fair industry UFI.

Data

43 of the 70 trade fairs that took place at the Feria de Madrid in 2012 were organized by IFEMA itself, so that the proportion of guest events was 38%. With 56 fairs, the majority of the fairs were aimed at trade visitors. Around 14,800 exhibitors booked an area of around 665,000 m² at 77 trade fairs and congresses with accompanying exhibition and attracted almost 2.4 million visitors to the exhibition center. Due to the economic situation, there are only 65 trade fairs on Madrid's calendar in 2014, including 21 guest events. In September 2014 the fashion fair Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid will take place again.
