The Shanghai New International Expo Center ( SNIEC ) is currently the third largest exhibition center in the People's Republic of China .

Location and infrastructure

The SNIEC is located in Shanghai in the Pudong district and consists of seventeen halls with a total of 200,000 square meters of indoor exhibition space and 100,000 square meters of outdoor space. Construction work on the facility, designed by the US firm Murphy / Jahn , began on November 4, 1999, with the opening taking place on November 2, 2001. Initially consisting of only four halls, the project has grown over the years. The last construction phase was completed at the end of 2011. With over 100 events per year and a turnover rate of 27 (2015), the SNIEC is the busiest and therefore one of the most successful exhibition centers in the world.

Immediately next to the exhibition center is the terminus of the Transrapid Shanghai , a magnetic levitation train that leads to Shanghai-Pudong Airport .

Operating company

The company Shanghai New International Expo Center Co., Ltd. was founded in 1999 as a 50:50 joint venture between the Chinese state-owned “Shanghai Pudong Land Development Corp.” and the German “German Exposition Corporation International GmbH” (“GEC”). Deutsche Messe AG , Messe Düsseldorf and Messe München each hold a third of the GEC . Since 2008 the 50% Chinese shareholder is Lujiazui Exhibition Development Co., Ltd. The managing director is provided by the German side. Michael Kruppe has held this position since the beginning of 2014.
