Pudong ( Chinese  浦東 新區  /  浦东 新区 , Pinyin Pǔdōng Xīn Qū  - "New district east of the Huangpu River") is a district of the Chinese metropolis Shanghai in the People's Republic of China . Pudong has - after its expansion by the dissolved city district Nanhui (2009) - approx. 2,686,000 inhabitants on an area of 1,210.41 km². The population density is 2,219.1 inhabitants / km². economy

Pudong is considered to be the new economic and high-tech district in Shanghai, with economic growth averaging over 20 percent since 1990. To date, over $ 40 billion has been invested in Pudong by companies outside of China. The Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park distinguishes itself as a location for the development of bio, IT and microelectronic technologies. The Tesla Gigafactory 3 battery cell and electric car factory is also located there.

The Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone is home to international financial institutions and numerous skyscrapers such as the 421 m high Jin Mao Tower , the 468 m high Oriental Pearl Tower and the 492 m high Shanghai World Financial Center , currently the third tallest skyscraper in the world structurally . The Shanghai Tower , which is 632 m high, is the second tallest skyscraper in the world and the tallest in China. Along with Manhattan , Central (Hong Kong) and some districts of Dubai and Tokyo, Pudong is the place with the most skyscrapers per km².

traffic

Pudong is the only place in the world that operates a magnetic levitation train in public transport, the Transrapid Shanghai (Maglev Train), which connects the modern Shanghai-Pudong Airport, almost 30 kilometers to the east, with the Lóngyáng-Straße metro station in the Pudong district and the Shanghai New International exhibition center Expo Center (SNIEC) connects every 15 minutes. The disadvantage, however, is that this station is about 6 kilometers away from the economic center of Pudong.
