Hold Your Fire is the 12th music album by the Canadian rock band Rush . It was released in September 1987 on the record label Mercury Records .

For many fans of the group, Hold Your Fire marks the beginning of the band's decline. Under the producer Peter Collins , Rush has increasingly abandoned his progressive roots from the critics' point of view and oriented the arrangements towards the musical mainstream . The band members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson , who wrote the music as usual, are accused of producing monumental rock with little ideas - titles such as the pathetic Second Nature and the tranquil China idyll Tai Shan are cited as evidence .

Other observers still see the musical complexity in Hold Your Fire for which Rush is admired by his followers. The depth of content of the lyrics, written by drummer Neil Peart , is also recognized by many fans. They especially praise songs like the rocky Prime Mover or High Water .

Many of the songs from Hold Your Fire can also be found on the subsequently released live album A Show of Hands .
