Power Windows is the title of the eleventh studio album that the Canadian rock band Rush released in October 1985 . The eight songs were recorded by sound engineer Jim Barton at Air Studios in Montserrat , The Manor in England and Sarm East Studios in London .

Synthesizers dominate the soundscape, and producer Peter Collins has given some of the pieces a pretty bombastic sound. In “Marathon” the band is supported not only by the studio keyboardist Andy Richards (who worked for the Pet Shop Boys , among others ), but also by the lush ensemble of the Radio France choir .

The musical appearance of the songs, which were composed by bassist and singer Geddy Lee together with guitarist Alex Lifeson , has not yet reached the catchiness of later albums, rocky echoes from earlier albums can be found in the opening title "Big Money", but also in pieces how "territories" make up.

The lyrics were written by drummer Neil Peart , who in the eighties dealt with topics from the political, social, but also cultural everyday life. He describes the US atomic bomb research project in World War II in the song "Manhattan Project". In the chorus it says: "The big bang - took and shook the world, shot down the rising sun".

In addition to “Big Money”, “Manhattan Project” in particular became a classic of the band from Power Windows' track list , which is also played live over and over again. Many of the songs from Power Windows can also be found on the later released live album A Show of Hands .
